Services for the Homebound

Are you stuck at home and longing for a good book? The Deep River Public Library offers a library service which provides books (regular and large type), books-on-tape and other items to Deep River residents of all ages who are temporarily or permanently homebound. Staff members will gladly offer suggestions regarding the latest best sellers, all-time favorites, and interesting books-on-tape.

This service for the homebound is free. Staff will deliver borrowed items to your home and will pick them up for return to the library. Please call 526-6039 for more information.

Computers & Internet Access

A current library card with an internet sticker must be shown at the the time of sign up. All computer users must sign and submit the registration and responsibility form. If you do not have a Deep River library card then bring in your hometown library card for registration purposes. Anyone under eighteen years of age must have written parental approval.

Book Drops
Our book drops are located at the front and rear of the building for patrons who wish to leave items when the library is closed. We request that passes not be put in the drops but brought into the library.

Do I have to type the library web address every time I need to go to your web site?
No, you don't! You may use your "Favorites" or "Bookmarks". Here is how:
Go back to our home page.   Once you are there, click on "favorite" or "bookmark" located at the top of your screen. Choose "add to favorites" or "add bookmark" If another window "pops up" click OK
The next time you want to go to our web site, click on "favorites" or "bookmark" and then choose (click on) "Deep River Public Library"

How do I get a Library Card?
Your library card entitles you to borrow materials from all public libraries in Connecticut . To obtain a library card you need to bring proof of Deep River residency and fill out our registration form. Children obtain their first library card in September as part of a first grade field trip to the library. Parents or guardians are required to co-sign for their child's card. Nonresidents must have a current hometown library card to borrow materials.

How long may I keep materials?
Books, CDs, Books on Tape, CD-ROMs, Books on CD, and Magazines may be borrowed for 2 weeks and may be renewed over the phone. Videos and DVDs may be borrowed for 2 days and may be renewed over the phone. Some DVD series may circulate for 2 weeks.

What if what I want is checked out when I come in?
If the book, CD or Audio you want is not on the shelf when you call or visit, we can place your name on a reserve list, notify you when it is available, and hold it for you for 5 working days.

What if you don't have what I want in your Library?
If the material you need is not in our collection, we'll do our best to borrow it from another library for you. To use this service, simply fill out a request form at the library or log onto reQuest, generate an ILL request and you'll be called as soon as the material arrives to our library. Once you're finished, return the material to us and we'll send it back to its home library.


How much does it cost if I don't get my material back on time?
Books, CDs, Books on Tape and Books on CD: $.05 a day, $2 maximum.
Videos, DVDs: $1.00 a day, $5 maximum.
 

Where do I return materials I've borrowed?
All materials may be dropped off at the Circulation desk or the Book/Video Drops at the back and front of our building. Books from our library may be returned to any public library in the state and they will find their way back to us. We ask that any other material borrowed from our collection be returned to our building. Thanks.

How many videos/DVDs may I check out at a time?

An adult library cardholder may take out any combination of 2 videos or DVDs at one time.


What if my card is lost or stolen?

Lost card fees are $1 per card for the next two and then $5.
 

What if I lose an item I've checked out of the Library?
If you lose an item of ours, you will be charged the list price of the item. If an item is damaged while in your possession, a charge will be assessed after determining the extent of the damage. The library assumes no responsibility for damage or alleged damage to a borrower's hardware caused by a library video, tape, CD or DVD. You are responsible for all materials checked-out to you.
