Friends of the Deep River Library

Spring
2012
A Note
from the President
The Deep River Library is
an important resource in our community. But like many other
organizations, it needs help from volunteers. The Friends of
the Deep River Library is an all volunteer organization which
helps raise funds for the library. We assist with books,
equipment, and program needs not covered in the town’s
budget. Did you know that due to the Friends fundraising, we
provide discounted or free passes to museums, and sponsor
library activities such as “Music with Margie”?
Our main goal this year is
to increase the membership in the Friends of the Deep River
Public Library. Our hope is to bring together concerned citizens
who appreciate the value of a fine library. We are looking for
individuals who are willing to devote time (a little or a lot!),
financial contributions or book donations to accomplish our
goals. The Friends is open to new ideas for fundraisers and are
looking for people who are interested in taking on new ideas and
running with them.
Please consider helping
the library by joining the Friends. A membership form has been
included with this mailer for your convenience. Our town
deserves a superior library, one equipped with staff,
collections, and facilities to serve the cultural needs of an
expanding community. Whether you are a high school student
looking for extra-credit, a parent who appreciates our
children’s programs or a senior citizen, we can use your help.
Thank you!

The Friends would like to
present our 2012 Christmas Ornament depicting the Stone House.
The Stone house was built in 1840 by Ezra Southworth. Ezra was a
descendant of one of the founding families of Deep River. The
Stone House is a showcase of the life, industry and achievements
of the townspeople during the nineteenth and twentieth centuries
in our town. Today, as the headquarters of the Deep River
Historical Society, it is the center for historical research and
a location for many events both local and private. Don’t miss
purchasing this ornament at our Annual Book and Bake Sale in
September!

Spring into Summer Book
Sale - Saturday, May 19th 9-1pm
On Saturday, May 19th from
9-1pm, The Friends of the Deep River Library will hold a mini
book sale on the front lawn of the library. (Rain place: Library
Community Room). The event will feature summer reading books
for children and adults. We will be selling books on gardening,
boating, cooking, travel and more! Members of the Deep River
Jr. Ancient Fife and Drum Corps will be on hand to provide
seasonal music. Special thanks go to the Deep River/Chester Cub
Scouts and the Deep River Garden Club for their help and
support. See you there!
Continuing Book Sale- in the lobby!
Have you
noticed the great selection of books available for sale in the
library lobby? Most of the current adult trade books cost just
$2.00; kid’s books are just $.50; and hard covers and book
collections are available for only a bit more. This is an
opportunity to pick up an affordable gift or gather a collection
of relaxing reading to bring with you on vacation. Be sure to
check them out! All proceeds are donated back to the library for
new books, materials, museum passes, and programs.

Thank you!
A BIG shout-out
to all the local folks who have been donating gently-used books
to the Friends for our Book Sales!! It is a great way to support
the library and to give others an opportunity to enjoy the books
you have finished. We gladly accept adult and children's fiction
and non-fiction that are in good condition. Sorry, we cannot
accept textbooks, magazines or Reader's Digest condensed version
books. It works best if donations are left at the bottom of
the stairs inside the main library entrance, and a library
worker should be notified of the donation so they can review the
books before you leave. Again, please consider making a book or
money donation to help our local library prosper and provide
more new and exciting reading materials and programs to the
citizens of Deep River.New Donation Location
